When designing any interior space, acoustical performance is an important factor in every material that is chosen. Recently, Fritztile by Expanko's terrazzo tiles were tested for acoustical values and boasted scores higher than many of the most common "quiet" flooring options. Fritztile features a unique combination of beauty, hard surface performance and high acoustical ratings.
Fritztile was tested for sound transmission, in accordance with ASTM-E 492-90, which covers the laboratory measurement of impact sound transmission of floor-ceiling assemblies using a standardized tapping machine. Fritztile received a remarkable 54 dB rating, a higher rating than recycled rubber flooring (Expanko's Reztec, 36 dB), and the same rating as half inch homogenous cork flooring (Expanko's Heirloom, 54 dB).
Fritztile's impact insulation was also tested, according to ASTM E490-02, which covers the laboratory measurement of airborne sound transmission loss of building partitions such as walls of all kinds, operable partitions, floor-ceiling assemblies, doors, windows, roofs, panels, and other space-dividing elements. Fritztile received a rating of 43 dB, significantly outscoring both recycled rubber (Expanko's Reztec, 8dB) and cork/rubber flooring (Expanko's XCR4, 36 dB).
Throughout its more than 50 years in the commercial architectural community, Fritztile has become a go-to choice for many designers because the product offers a vast array of options based in its low maintenance, high value products. From custom colors to water jet cutting to unique patterns, the design possibilities with Fritztile are truly endless. To assist in the creative process, Fritztile introduces a design library on the content sharing service, Pinterest. Pinterest allows members to "pin" images and websites that inspire them in a convenient format for easy reference. The Fritztile boards are designed to bring inspiration to the design community and to highlight the possibilities for creativity with terrazzo tile. These boards will also be a way for the design community to communicate with Fritztile about what inspires them. The library will feature many Fritztile projects, as well as beautiful terrazzo work, color based design boards and "just for fun" pins.
Expanko, Inc announces that its newest line, Fritztile Flexible Terrazzo Tile, has achieved FloorScore Certification, continuing the company's tradition of providing environmentally sensitive, commercial-friendly flooring products.
FloorScore is a voluntary third-party certification that tests and certifies flooring products for compliance with indoor air quality emission requirements of the California Section 01350 program. Developed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) in conjunction with Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), FloorScore tests and certifies hard surface flooring and flooring adhesive products for compliance with rigorous indoor air quality emissions requirements. Individual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are evaluated using health-based specifications.
In 2012, Fritztile by Expanko, Inc launched a brand new sampling tool to showcase its 47 pattern line. Expanko Inc's corporate offices established a tile sampling recycling program to reuse the tile samples that were already in the field. The Fritztile sales force collected all chip set boxes that were placed in the architectural design community and repackaged them with the new chip set trays. The old cardboard packaging was then recycled. This simple act recycled nearly 28,000 samples in the first 9 months of the program. Through green business practices such as this recycling program, Expanko Inc continues its commitment to produce and market environmentally responsible products in eco-friendly ways.
